Curator Gallery Tour and Talk, Neprajzi Museum, Budapest, Hungary
The Museum of Ethnography preserves approximately 15,600 objects and countless research notes and photographs from the islands of the Pacific Ocean. The pieces in the collection − from the cult to everyday tools − present a wide spectrum of Oceanian culture and its changes.
How could material from this distant culture end up in the capital of a non-colonial country, and what does it teach us? What responsibility and means do we have to return the knowledge preserved here to communities searching for their identity in globalization and the climate crisis that is hitting them the hardest?
The guided tour will be given by museologist Anna Biró.
