Museo delle Civiltà

We are delighted to welcome Museo delle Civiltà as a participant of the Wan Bel global project.

Il Museo delle Civiltà (MuCiv) in Rome is home to one of Europe’s most significant Oceanic collections, with around 15,000 works spanning the Pacific, including a remarkable array from Papua New Guinea. Highlights include monumental architectural elements, ceremonial objects from the Kula exchange of Milne Bay, and powerful ancestor figures and malaggan sculptures from New Ireland. Together, these works bear witness to the artistic brilliance and cultural depth of Papua New Guinea’s communities.

Today, the museum is actively re-examining its collections and presenting Oceanic materials with renewed critical and historical context, exemplifying a forward-thinking and inclusive approach that redefines how Pacific heritage is studied, interpreted, and shared.
