National Museum of Ireland

National Museum of Ireland

We are delighted to welcome National Museum of Ireland as a participant of the WanBel global project.

The National Museum of Ireland, while primarily dedicated to Irish and European heritage, also preserves objects and specimens from Papua New Guinea that reflect broader global connections. Among these holdings is a notable collection of butterflies gathered near Maprik Village, now safeguarded within the museum’s conservation archives.

The presence of Papua New Guinea art, artefacts, and natural history materials illustrates the museum’s engagement with global narratives and demonstrates the interconnectedness of cultural and natural knowledge.
