We are delighted to welcome Musée L in Belgium as a participant in the WanBel global network.
Musée L is the University Museum of Louvain-la-Neuve, part of the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain), one of Europe’s oldest universities. Re-opened in 2017 in the renovated brutalist modern former science Library, the museum has brought together a diverse range of collections of art, science and natural history. As part of the university the museum is both a public museum and a teaching and research centre.
The museum’s innovative displays combine works of art from different places and eras with science objects and natural history specimens to create a dialogue and unusual encounters which tell us about the world and our humanity.
The museum has a focused Papua New Guinea collection with the Sepik especially well represented. A selection of works are on permanent display and others have featured in temporary exhibitions, such as Art & Rite. The Power of Objects in 2021
