We are delighted to welcome the Chau Chak Wing Museum as a participant of the WanBel global project.

The Chau Chak Wing Museum holds one of the most significant collections of Papua New Guinea material, ranging from ceremonial masks to photographic archives and records of expeditions such as the Chevert, associated with figures including Theodore Francis Bevan and Sir William Macleay.

The museum’s thoughtful approach to display, provenance research, and repatriation has set an important benchmark for ethical stewardship, reflecting a sustained respect for Papua New Guinea’s cultural heritage. Its commitment to documenting and preserving this legacy, including making collections accessible online, contributes to a broader understanding of the historical and cultural richness of the region.
