MAAOA Marseille
MAAOA Marseille
We are delighted to welcome the MAAOA as a participant of the WanBel global project.
The Musée d’Arts Africains, Océaniens et Amérindiens (MAAOA) has a long-standing commitment to presenting the cultural heritage of the Pacific and Papua New Guinea through its permanent displays and public programming. The Oceania-Americas gallery features important works from the Sepik River, New Britain, and Malakula Island — including masks, ritual sculptures, and everyday objects — which reveal the rich spiritual and visual traditions of the region. Highlights include pieces from the Henri Gastaut collection, acquired in 1989, as well as key works first presented in the landmark 2000 exhibition Papuan Art: Austronesians and Papuans of New Guinea.
Through exhibitions, guided tours, and public events such as the Nuit des Musées, MAAOA continues to play a vital role in connecting diverse audiences to global heritage and encouraging deeper engagement with Oceania’s artistic legacies.
