We are delighted to welcome de Young Museum as a participant of the WanBel global project.

The de Young Museum, home to a rich collection of over 300 works from Papua New Guinea, stands as a vibrant tribute to the nation's extraordinary cultural diversity. The current exhibition, Contemporary Painting in Papua New Guinea: Mathias Kauage and His Family, brilliantly showcases the evolution of PNG’s artistic spirit since independence, blending tradition with innovative storytelling.

As part of our global program celebrating 50 years of PNG’s independence, we are thrilled to highlight this contemporary showcase, amplifying the museum’s influential role in today’s artistic dialogues. Through this international platform, we celebrate the intersection of ancestral motifs and modern narratives, putting a spotlight on exceptional practices in cultural preservation and inspiring collaboration across generations.

Currently on display: March 30, 2024 – March 15, 2026
