Ethnologisches Museum Berlin

Ethnologisches Museum Berlin

We are delighted to welcome the Ethnologisches Museum Berlin as a participant of the WanBel global project.

The Ethnologisches Museum Berlin holds one of the most extensive collections from Papua New Guinea, with over 16,000 objects that include monumental Iatmul house elements from the Sepik River, sacred Malagan figures from New Ireland, and intricately carved Gulf spirit boards.

Together, these works reflect centuries of artistic brilliance and cultural depth, providing one of the most comprehensive perspectives on the region’s ancestral narratives. The museum’s advanced conservation facilities and its dedicated spaces for sound and instrumentation highlight how technology can engage with ancestral knowledge while supporting contemporary research and practice.
