Te Papa Tongarewa
Te Papa Tongarewa
We are delighted to welcome the Te Papa Tongarewa as a participant of the WanBel global project.
Te Papa Tongarewa, the national museum of New Zealand, holds an outstanding collection of works from Papua New Guinea that span both historic and contemporary traditions. Rare and extraordinary eharo dance masks stand alongside modern creations such as works by Timothy Akis, reflecting both the depth of ancestral heritage and the vitality of ongoing artistic expression.
As a leader within the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) sector, Te Papa combines curatorial expertise with extensive digital resources, ensuring that collections are widely accessible and thoughtfully presented. In doing so, the museum highlights Papua New Guinea’s cultural heritage as part of the wider Pacific context, underlining the shared histories and creative bonds that connect communities across Oceania.
