Musée d'ethnographie de Genève

Modern building with a white, geometric, diamond-patterned facade, surrounded by landscaped garden with flowering bushes, trees, and a winding water feature under a clear blue sky.

We are delighted to welcome Musée d'ethnographie de Genève as a participant of the Wan Bel global project.

The Musée d’ethnographie de Genève (MEG) holds one of Europe’s most significant collections from Papua New Guinea, with more than 2,500 works including malagan figures, ritual masks, and sensitive remains. Its collections reflect the artistic vitality of the Sepik River and the wider cultural breadth of Oceania, positioning the museum as a key institution for understanding the region’s heritage.

MEG is widely recognized for its critical approach to provenance research, transparency, and decolonizing practice, alongside its dedication to documenting and interpreting global traditions. The permanent exhibition The Archive of Differences and recent initiatives addressing the ethical display of sensitive objects exemplify its commitment to responsible and inclusive museum practice. Through this work, MEG continues to play a leading role in shaping contemporary ethnographic stewardship and intercultural dialogue.
